I’m English.

No surprise there.

In July 2008, I left the UK and moved to Germany.

It was me and my Dakine wheel bag

– Still here
– Still using it
– Still spot it in airports

I’d never been before.
I didn’t know anyone.
Now, I’ve built connections from scratch.

I didn’t speak a word of German.
(I still don’t fluently, though I should, but everyone speaks English.)

I moved for a fresh challenge.
For opportunity.

Everyone should try living in a different country.

– It forces you to adapt.
– Change your habits.
– Experience new cultures.
– See the world, and your work, differently.

One of two things happen:
– You thrive and create a life you never imagined.
– You learn, evolve, and take those lessons wherever you go next.

Either way, you can’t lose.

It’s been 16 years now.

Would you ever consider moving country?

PS: At the time, I was working with a supplier for Dakine, making bags—then ended up buying one myself in a store at full price.
